Is Google Making Us Stupid?

Math help? Google it. Language converter? Google it. Hooked already? Stay on it! But if you have AP- LIVE ON IT!!! Just the other day I was giving into my Google craze, getting help after advice after another simple trick to hold on to the tethers of my fast-pace moving classes in AP. The upside to me keeping my place in Advanced Placement? It's better to pay 82 dollars than to pay thousands for the same course in college, I always say. But every time I get another assignment, the Google craze gets even worse- maybe it's making us lax in what we do. I haven't touched any of my textbooks or novels without the help of Google leading me to shortcuts to understand the work, or the much-needed help of Sparknotes on a daily basis. Is Google Making Us Stupid?! The answer could be seen as more relaxed than usual. In other words, yes.

In the article, Dave, an astronaut who works for NASA, explains why Google is a serious problem if you over-use it. The effects are somewhat deadly- you start to get less attentive, sentences seem to be more complex, and then before you know it, you're as smart as a fifth grader- or maybe you're already badly off into the fix.
"The Web has been a godsend to me as a writer. For more than a decade now, I have been spending a lot of time online."
It's not just ordinary students who use the widely searched Internet base, but it's also people that have great professions. Without the normal and old-fashioned way of doing things, the Internet makes us lack concentration and deep thinking into our assignments, as well as our problems in life. Fine example- I didn't read this entire story because my attention couldn't hold. I thoroughly read the jist of it, and then after the rest, I lightly skimmed over it until I painfully finished till the end. Another analysis? The time I spend with my friend, Mellody. On Google, you can look up anything that will please your mind. From Demi Lovato's Twitter, to my addiction of Fall Out Boy, just the simplest things to pass the time away! Getting rid of Google is like getting an infant to throw away his bottle for a new cup. Dave has the same problem as everyone else does! Has he and his colleagues turned foolish? How can this be prevented?

Wean yourself off of it. It's not simple, but it's possible. Three main sets of goals can be established in order for our society to get used to the original way of doing things. First, everyone can stop looking up unnecessary things on the website. It wastes time for something more important you can be doing. Secondly, use less time on the computer so that you will have more time to read or do anything you want to catch up on, like a sport or activity. All is preventable and the road may be hard, but if you don't live in a society that's completely online, then try to do it the way things are supposed to be. I myself have come up with an easy way to use both things. I from now on will only use Google for when I have to, and I will not use Sparknotes for something I have already read before. It's a waste, and there's so much to be done. As for Dave, the story on Google was actually a great read, and I think that his thoughts should be held with high regards. Since he knows what his issue and cause is, it's high time to find a solution.

Is Google Making Us Stupid? Probably so. This world of Western culture comes up with new technology every day, and soon things won't have to be done because machines will do it for us. Leonardo DaVinci, Aristotle, nor William Shakespeare succeeded this way. Their brilliance came from great talent and hard work, and without that, the world would be a lost hope of great theories, music, art, and other treasures that we still are holding on to today.
